GTM that wins engineering audiences.
I build the go-to-market foundation for B2B software startups selling technical products to engineering, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams. Let's tell a story that makes your product impossible to deny.
DeLaney GTM builds the strategic foundation your growth depends on.
Why bother?
-
Your GTM foundation governs your sales and marketing investments. If flawed, it undermines your growth. I deliver the GTM strategy and product marketing discipline to mitigate the risk of failure.
-
I conduct market research and survey customers/internal stakeholders to identify the best audience for your product. Your ideal customer profile (ICP), beachhead segment, and key personas are a critical piece of the GTM foundation.
-
Having identified your ideal buyer, I draft sharp, differentiated messaging to win the hearts and minds of that audience. Engage buyers with a story that speaks precisely to their pain, answer AI disruption questions head-on, and empower your sales team.
-
Every engagement produces live deliverables anchored in a strong GTM story—website pages, case studies, cornerstone content. Generate awareness and pipeline long after the engagement ends.
-
I arm your salespeople with a comprehensive enablement toolkit, helping them lead effective sales conversations anchored in a compelling GTM story. Pitch deck, battle cards, objection handling guide, discovery framework, live training—whatever they need.
I couldn’t live with myself if I let you squander a good product with bad marketing.
GTM Foundations Package

Nice things people say
“Matt owned high-profile GTM work at LaunchDarkly, including product launches, sales enablement, and positioning that influenced pipeline. He brings a strong blend of technical fluency and strategic judgment. If you're building a GTM function from scratch, I'd give Matt a call.”
— Keith Messick, Former CMO at LaunchDarkly
“At GitLab, Matt built credibility with field CTOs and solutions architects who don’t suffer generic marketing. He understood the product and technical landscape, and the messaging and content he produced reflected that. That technical depth is hard to find in a marketer.”
— Darwin Sanoy, Field CTO at GitLab
“I worked with Matt when he was at LaunchDarkly, and he was one of the sharpest marketing partners I've had. He deeply understood the product, the customer, and the market and he helped make our work with LaunchDarkly more impactful. He brought clear thinking to complex GTM and content problems. Without him, I don’t know if our engagement would have been successful, and with him, it absolutely was.”
— John-Henry Scherck, CEO at GrowthPlays
About me
Hello, I’m Matt DeLaney! I've spent a decade in go-to-market roles in the B2B software industry. Early in my career, I worked in sales at Tableau, where I received world-class training and managed the entire sales cycle from cold call to close. I then moved into product marketing, where I've built go-to-market foundations, launched products, and enabled sales teams at leading companies like GitLab and LaunchDarkly, as well as early-stage startups.
I specialize in marketing technical products to software developers, engineering leaders, DevOps/platform engineering teams, and cybersecurity practitioners. What's more, I've marketed AI/machine learning solutions and understand how to communicate the value of AI-native products.
I draw upon the full breadth of my experience to build GTM programs that help you hit your growth targets. I’d like us both to get rich.

Not children.
My services are for B2B software startups selling technical products to technical audiences. This includes startups selling to software developers, DevOps and platform engineering teams, cybersecurity practitioners, AI/ML infrastructure teams, or other technical audiences. If you’ve yet to build a proper go-to-market foundation, or you have a number of gaps and areas of uncertainty in your GTM approach, you’d be a good fit for my services. You’d also be a good fit if you’re looking for continued product marketing support both in terms of execution and strategic input.

We start with a discovery call to identify your biggest GTM needs. From there, I'll recommend either a sprint engagement(s), the full GTM Foundations Package, or an ongoing retainer. All engagements are fixed-scope and fixed-price. I strive to leave you with as many public-facing sales and marketing artifacts as possible, rather than an excess of internal documents buried in a shared drive. Most engagements run 4–12 weeks depending on scope.
-
I don't publish fixed rates because scope varies too much to make a price list meaningful. What I can tell you is I price based on projects, not an hourly rate. Engagements are fixed-fee with defined deliverables, so you know exactly what you're getting before we start.
If you'd like a specific quote, the fastest path is a 30-minute conversation. I'll give you a clear number and scope before we go any further.

A senior PMM with genuine technical depth costs $160K–$200K+ in total comp, plus months to recruit and ramp. To compete in this market, you need to build your GTM foundation now, not in six months.
I can start delivering value right away. What’s more, in many cases, the total cost is a fraction of what a full-time senior PMM would cost in salary, benefits, and equity. Also, you don’t have to make any long-term commitments with me if you don’t want to.
I draw upon domain expertise forged over a decade in technical B2B software to deliver topflight product marketing support and strategic counsel. I can help you reduce the risk of costly mistakes and get you to market faster, with greater confidence.

You could.
But here’s something to consider: regardless of how powerful an AI system is, a human being is accountable for the outcome associated with your GTM strategy at the end of the day. The question, then, centers on the best human to own that process. I bring deep experience building GTM systems for technical audiences and can share the responsibility with you.
Another thing, I use prominent LLMs daily in my work. As capable as they are, their quality fluctuates to the point of being unreliable. As of writing this (April 2026), I’ve observed a noticeable decline in the quality of the main LLMs I use. Others in the industry share this observation. What’s more, the token costs get out of control for certain tasks/workflows. All that to say, AI often gets me 80–85% of the way to a finished deliverable. But the last mile demands considerable human effort—synthesizing conflicting stakeholder feedback, choosing between three positioning angles that all seem reasonable, interviewing customers, building the internal relationships needed for productive alignment, scrubbing cliches and slop from the outputs, etc. A seasoned operator will get through that last mile faster and with better results than someone with less experience.

I use generative AI systems extensively in my work. It helps shorten the time to value for my clients. While I use AI to increase efficiency, I will never ship AI slop. I refuse to partake in the marketing enshittification overtaking the Internet. More to the point, my reputation hinges on excellent work quality, and I’m dedicated to total customer satisfaction.
When using AI, it often gets me 80-85% of the way to a finished deliverable. I draw upon my decade of experience to effectively steer the AI systems and ensure excellent quality in the remaining 15-20% of the project.
